What’s wrong with my laptop powerjack/charger?
My gateway mx6453 (about 3 years old now) used to give me problems a few months ago. It used to intermittently stop charging. I cleaned it out and it worked fine after that. It recently happened again, but it would flash between charging and noncharging continuously. I finally cleaned the power jack with vinegar and scratched it with a needle. It charges now, but still intermittently (every minute) toggles from charging to not charging. What’s wrong with my powerjack/powerplug and what should I do as a permanent solution (preferably not expensive, like replacing powerjack).

Internal wiring of the DC cable near the plug to laptop’s DC port could be damaged/frayed or internal contact with the plug is loose. Try replacing the DC plug and cut off about an inch of the DC cable before connecting with plug. If you have not done something like this, better have a technician do it for you.
