Concerns and Controversy Over Wind Turbines

Noise level and setbacks are just a couple of concerns of the people that live in Amber Township and Riverton Township in Mason County . These huge wind turbines that stand 476 foot tall are planed for Mason county. There is a large controversy over these wind turbines with many people against them and many people for them.

The people that are against them bring up the controversy of noise, light flicker and if there will be health issues with these wind turbines. Some of the other concerns that they have is the ice build up on the turbine blades that could be a danger of the ice flying off and striking some one or some thing, They are also concerned as what effect the wind turbines will have on the wildlife such as bats, birds, and other wildlife in the area. Other concerns is what impact they will have on property values in the area. Some say that it will have no effect, but in one instance a buyer backed out of buying a piece of property the last minute when he found out wind turbine were likely to be built in the area. Another concern many people have is that they could be built close to a property line, very close to where people live. This is one good reason that there will have to be some very good rules and regulations on where Consumers Energy can build them.

Then there are many people that are all for building wind turbines in Mason County. The reason that they are for building them in Mason County is the jobs that it will bring to the county. These jobs will come from manufacturing the wind turbines, erecting the wind turbines on the site. And the maintenance of the turbines after they are up and running. In our poor economic times we need all the jobs we can come up with. Other reasons are by using this green renewable energy it will help wean the U.S. away from the fossil fuels that we are so dependent on today. It is mandated that in a short time we will have to have at least ten percent of our energy from renewable sources such as the wind turbines, the sun, and other green renewable sources.

With all of the people that are for the wind turbines and the ones that are against them there will have to be some very good rules and regulations governing the placement of wind turbines, the noise factor, health issues, impact on wild life, property values, and many other things that pertain to building wind turbines in this area.
