Would an automotive alternator (specificly GM) operate in a wind generator application without charging field?

I have details to build a wind generator which from what I see, the field gets no power and the regulator is not used. Wiring goes from the hot lead at the back of the unit and a ground from the case to an inverter to convert to 110 V AC. Is it even remotely possible that this will produce electricity? To my knowledge you need a charged field for either an alternator or generator to operate.

You are right, an alternator will not produce electricity with out one.
However once the system is started up the battery becomes part of the base load. The inverter would also form part of the circuit.
